De novo cerebellar malignant glioma: A case report. - PubMed - NCBI

چکیده

Abstract Gliomas of the cerebellum are rare in adults, and their natural history and clinical behavior are not well known. Because cerebellar glioma is not usually diagnosed until clinical symptoms have appeared, no reports have described the developmental process of new cerebellar gliomas. We describe a case of de novo cerebellar anaplastic astrocytoma in which the developmental process was detected on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). A 78-year-old man with a history of cerebral infarction was undergoing follow-up MRI every 6 months. This follow-up revealed a small abnormality in the left cerebellar hemisphere without clinical symptoms. Subsequent MRI showed lesion growth accompanying clinical symptoms. As cerebellar tumor was suspected, the lesion was extirpated. The histological diagnosis was anaplastic astrocytoma. Local recurrence developed and the patient died 20 months postoperatively. Cerebellar gliomas sometimes do not exhibit the common MRI findings of supratentorial gliomas, leading to difficulty with preoperative diagnosis. In this case, we initially diagnosed asymptomatic cerebellar infarction because the lesion was small and asymptomatic. The abnormal lesion gradually grew and clinical symptoms appeared. Cerebellar glioma may show few signs characteristic of tumor on MRI in the initial stages. When MRI detects a new, faint abnormality in the cerebellum, close follow-up of clinical symptoms and MRI on suspicion of glioma is warranted. Copyright © 2016 The Authors. Genomic discoveries in adult astrocytoma. - PubMed - NCBI

Astrocytomas are the most common glial tumor of the central nervous system. Within this category, glioblastoma is the most prevalent and malignant primary brain tumor. Glioblastoma can arise de novo, or through progression from lower-grade lesions, but is uniformly associated with poor outcomes despite surgical resection, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. Recent genomic discoveries have prov...

De novo large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the prostate, case report and literature review. - PubMed - NCBI

Large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the prostate (LCNEC), de novo in particular, is an extremely rare entity that has only been described in the literature in case reports. Historically, the majority of the cases of LCNEC reported in the literature represent typical prostatic adenocarcinomas that transformed after long standing androgen deprivation therapy (ADT). These cases were admixed wit...

Chemotherapy for Adults with Malignant Glioma: A Systematic Review and Network Meta-analysis. - PubMed - NCBI

Abstract Malignant glioma is the most common primary brain tumor in adults and the survival rate has remained very low. Thus, determining the optimal treatment for patients can be challenging. To compare the efficacy of common therapies, we performed network meta-analysis to estimate the efficacy and safety among procarbazine, lomustine, vincristine, temozolomide, bevacizumab plus temozolomide,...

Multicentric spinal cord and brain glioblastoma without previous craniotomy. - PubMed - NCBI

Abstract Glioblastoma multiforme (GBS) is a highly malignant glioma that rarely presents as an infratentorial tumor. Multicentric gliomas lesions are widely separated in site and/or time and its incidence has been reported between 0.15 and 10%. Multicentric gliomas involving supratentorial and infratentorial region are even more rare. In most cases, infratentorial disease is seen after surgical...

Insights into cerebellar development and medulloblastoma. - PubMed - NCBI

Cerebellar development is an extensive process that begins during early embryonic stages and persists more than one year after birth in human. Therefore, the cerebellum is susceptible to acquire various developmental abnormalities leading to numerous diseases such as medulloblastoma, the most common pediatric malignant brain tumor. One third of the patients with medulloblastoma are incurable an...
